Congrats FurAffinity

Recently, FurAffinity had a fundraising campaign to cover their site expenses after a series of issues where advertisers were placing absolutely unreasonable demands on them. Genuinely, advertisers were trying to say “plus-sized fully clothed characters” are somehow nsfw and advertiser unfriendly. Which… really says a lot about the state of society. A lot of very bad things! What it says probably falls largely on the capitalist class but still.

So the FurAffinity staff came forward with some pretty solid transparency asking for assistance in catching the website up on bills. The community came out in droves, raising over $200,000. FurAffinity is now fully funded for the next 8 months. There’s discussion of making the fundraiser a yearly thing as well as other discussions of ways to raise money without relying on third party advertisers. It all seems to be going very well for them…

and yet…

so much of what they’re doing to raise money (other than the gofundme)…

is what cohost tried to do, and cohost failed.

i’m so happy for furaffinity, they deserve to keep existing, but why couldn’t cohost have had the same success. yes, it had some significant problems, but none of them were beyond fixing. and the website was so much better than most social media. i miss it so much.
