Chasing Elysium - August 2026 Devlog

A slower month, I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress and nonsense in my life. That’s not to say nothing happened though! There were two fun developments this past month.

The first is I started teaching myself 3D modeling. I’ve tried to do pixel sprites but it just was not working for me. I struggled! A lot! My brain just doesn’t like it! So I’m experimenting at the moment with learning to do 3D modeling in the hopes that a low poly 3D aesthetic (think Mega Man Legends or other PS1 games) will be something achievable and reasonable for me. So far, I am enjoying the process a lot! I haven’t had the time I’ve wanted to really get through it, but I am making decent progress. Hopefully I can get another one-off Twitch stream in soon cause that was very good for me I think.

The second is I have been actually. Writing. The Story. Chasing Elysium has always been a story first in my mind, one that I want to tell in the format of a game, but a story all the same. And to be fully honest, making a game, while fun, is slow. Especially solo. I would rather have the story exist in some form and then later adapt it into a game than to have an incomplete game that maybe never gets done? As such, not only am I writing the story, I am writing it with the intent to share it as I go so that people can enjoy it, even should the game never get finished.

I need to be clear that I am in no way “giving up” on making the game. I am simply recognizing that there are limits to what I can do and doing my best to work with those limits. The game will get made in some capacity, but far more importantly this story will exist for people to experience.

Anyways I’m moving in September. That’s going to be fun and interesting. It will probably be another slow month as a result. Wish me luck!
