Games I Played - Case of the Golden Idol

No spoilers will be in this post! Some vague discussion of aspects of the game will be present!

I recently played the Case of the Golden Idol, a detective/mystery game inspired by Return of the Obra Dinn. I still haven't done the DLC cases, but I did beat the main story.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. The way it tells the story through the investigation itself is highly effective. I definitely ran into the same issue I have with Obra Dinn where I get to the point where I know what information I need to find but don't know where exactly it's located. Not a fault of the game, just a point of friction with how I play. Thankfully I had one of my partners there to help me out (they have played the game before and are the one who wanted me to play it).

There came a point where I justĀ had to go back to prior scenarios to review certain details as aspects of the story became clear. Extremely effective storytelling and foreshadowing in the presence or lack of minor details that you have absolutely no reason to notice until the reveals are revealed.

The way the final scenario expands the scope so dramatically was also absolutely delightful. Really felt like a worthy final puzzle. Reminded me of aspects of the original Ace Attorney trilogy in a way.

If you like detective/mystery games, definitely give this one a look!
